On April 24, the round table "Implementation of European requirements for fruit jams and similar products" under the organization of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in cooperation with the European Union project "Support to Agricultural and Food Policy Implementation" was held. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, EU Project, profile associations, specialized producers and importers.

The event was held with the purpose of presenting participants with a comparative analysis of European requirements and national legislation on the production of fruit jams and similar products, as well as for finding common solutions for the implementation of European requirements for Ukrainian jam products. In particular, for the development of a regulatory act on new requirements for such products, it is necessary to analyze the technological features of production processes, to identify possible risks that may arise from the implementation of European requirements in national legislation, and to establish communication with stakeholders (producers, importers, profile associations).

"Today, important work has begun, which is another step towards the introduction of European standards for Ukrainian products. The result of this work should be a number of benefits for all market participants. Producers will gain competitive advantages both on the external and on the domestic market, in particular, will expand the range of potential consumers of their own products. And consumers, respectively, qualitative and safe products that meet their expectations and requirements" - Director General of the Directorate of Strategic Planning and European Integration Mr. Oleksandr Zhemoyda stated at the opening of the round table.

During the event, it was informed about the basic principles of the European system for regulating the production and trade of jams, which are based, among others, on Council Directive 2001/113 / EC on fruit jams, jellies, marmalade and sweetened chestnut purée intended for human consumption.

According to the results of the meeting, it was decided that all interested parties would send to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine proposals for new requirements for the production of jam products. Following their elaboration by the ministry's experts, the next event will be held at which the first edition of the draft requirements will be presented.
