According to the results of January 2019, the export of the agricultural goods amounted to 1,7 billion USD and showed an increase of almost by 22.5%.

This was reported by Olga Trofimtseva, acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

“According to the first month of 2019, the Ukrainian agricultural export continued to grow and increased by 321 million USD compared to January 2018,” noted the acting Minister.

She informed that the grain crops traditionally remain the leaders of Ukrainian agricultural export, with a share of 44.6% in the overall structure of the agricultural export, oils - 19.8% and oilseeds - 9.7%.

“What I would like to note is the changes in the regional structure of the agricultural export. The EU countries took the first place among our sales markets to which we exported goods for 668 million USD in January this year. The Asian countries lost to our European neighbours with a result of just over 641 million USD, and the third place is among African countries where Ukrainian agricultural export amounted to 292.2 million USD,” said Olga Trofimtseva.

“Given the positive trends in the export of agricultural goods and its importance in terms of generation of foreign exchange earnings I would like to once again focus on the issues of export logistics, primarily the railroad, especially for the grain and oilseeds. Considering that critical logistic issues remain on the agenda, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the sector representatives decided to resume regular interdepartmental headquarters’ work to promptly tackle the logistics issues in the agricultural sector focusing not only on resolution of the operational issues, but also on more strategic issues of the agricultural logistics”, - noted the acting Minister.

The top 5 key countries-importers of our agricultural and food products in January looked as follows (in terms of exports in value terms):

  • Egypt - $ 153.6 million,
  • Netherlands - $ 149.9 million,
  • India - $ 143.9 million,
  • Spain - $ 135,800,000
  • Turkey - $ 112.3 million.

“During this period, food import also increased by 9.5% compared with January 2018 and amounted to 462.6 million USD. Ukraine most actively imported fruits, nuts, fish, tobacco and manufactured goods from it, cocoa beans and chocolate, cereals , coffee, tea, spices and oil, ”added Olga Trofimtseva.
