Ukrainian and Belarusian parties agreed to expand cooperation in agriculture, - Olga Trofimtseva

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on European Integration Ms. Olga Trofimtseva.


This week there was held the 24th meeting of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Ukrainian Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Within the framework of the Commission parties agreed among other to increase the export and import trade potential in agricultural production and to focus on cooperative projects in agriculture. The development of active cooperation in agriculture between Ukraine and Belarus has a strategic importance for both parties.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on European Integration Ms. Olga Trofimtseva.

"Sustainable development of bilateral trade and economic relations in the agricultural sector is of strategic importance for Ukraine and Belarus. Already we see that trade between the two countries in 9 months of 2016 increased by $ 9.2 million compared to the same period last year. But thanks to the arrangements that have been done today at the state and government levels, we, as I hope, can significantly increase the performance of bilateral trade and economic relations in the agricultural sector", - the Deputy Minister on European Integration said.

Olga Trofimtseva added that following the meeting of Belarusian-Ukrainian Commission, the parties decided to pay special attention to comprehensive interaction in several areas. This is Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, seed sector, livestock, agricultural microbiology, fish industry and scientific - research cooperation.

"In order to increase the volume of bilateral trade in agricultural products between the two countries, the Commission agreed on regular and active cooperation between the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection of Ukraine and the relevant veterinary services of Belarus. This is will significantly reduce the regulatory and controlling barriers in mutual trade and help increase the presence of agricultural and food products in the markets of our countries of each other ", - says Olga Trofimtseva.

She said that during the meeting the representatives of the two countries agreed, in the established order, on specific solutions for expanding the list of accredited suppliers of food to the markets of both countries and the coordination and synchronization of anti-epizootic measures.

"Given the common position of Belarus and Ukraine on the need for more active development of of cooperation relations and taking into account current developments in our countries, much attention will be given to technical cooperation projects in the field of agricultural construction, seeds and land reclamation" - said Deputy Minister.

For 9 months of 2016 the trade turnover between Ukraine and Belarus amounted up to $ 297.9 million, with increase of $ 9.2 million over the same period of 2015. Exports amounted up to - $ 273.5 million (Residues and waste from the food industries, such as cake and meal, meat and by-products, oil, products from grains and cereals, oilseeds, etc.). Imports increased by almost in three times - up to $ 22.4 million. (Mostly there were imported products of the milling industry, prepared and canned fish products, vegetables, cocoa, chocolate, cereals and cereal products, etc.).
