The markets of Southeast Asia - is a strategic direction for Ukrainian exports of agricultural producers - Olga Trofimtseva

published 07 December 2016 14:07

This was said by Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on European Integration Ms. Olga Trofimtseva in his speech "The potential of Ukrainian agricultural exports to South-East Asia" at the international exhibition of agricultural machinery and equipment "InterAGRO."

Diversification of markets for Ukrainian agricultural products – is the key task for me, as a Deputy Minister, and my team. Ukrainian producer has established himself as a reliable partner in many markets but the opening of new geographical destinations for our exports is one of our main objectives at international level.

"Today Asian countries take the considerable position in the regional structure of Ukrainian exports of agricultural products - more than 45% (nearly $ 5 billion). In this case, the two countries are leading importers of our cereals and oilseeds - China and India. But we pay too little attention to the possibility of exports to this region of added value products, livestock products and organic products for high-margin markets. Such as Japan, South Korea and so on. In the case of India we have great opportunities to export pulses, "- the Deputy Minister on European Integration said.

According to Olga Trofimtseva, cooperation with Asian countries has both short and long term perspective for Ukrainian producers. "We are carefully studying existing researches on global agricultural development factors such as population growth by region and increase of purchasing power. According to the objective conditions we have to plan the development of our export strategy. Logically, Asia and Africa will have to play an increasingly important role as sales markets for our agricultural products".

No need to forget about the important role of Asia as potential investors in our agricultural sector. In countries such as China or Japan, there are large state and private investment companies, which are interested in investing in specific projects and in joint ventures in agriculture.

Today the team of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine together with representatives of MEDT (the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chamber of Commerce are willing to support Ukrainian businessmen who want to develop on the Asia markets by various tools: starting with providing the necessary information and involvement of partners, organizing of needed business events or trade missions in target countries and so on. "All that is necessary for support - is a active position of Ukrainian business and frank dialogue. The initiative for our business is a key to open every market. Asia is no exception, "- Olga Trofimtseva concluded.
