The development of the agrarian sector is a guarantee of accelerated economic growth and global leadership of Ukraine, as now our country is amongst the largest exporters of agrarian products in the world, while more than 300 Ukrainian producers have permits to trade their products in the European Union. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced on opening the agrarian Forum AGROPORT West Lviv 2019.
The event is the jubilee tenth forum and gathered more than 60 agricultural producers from Ukraine and the EU, mainly small and medium agribusiness, and is held in Lviv in the territory of the local airport. The location has been chosen not accidentally. The agricultural sector has been the driving force for the state's economic growth for several years now, providing 40% of foreign currency earnings and introducing cutting-edge production technologies. Meanwhile, last year it was the Lviv region that demonstrated one of the best indicators in the development of local agricultural complex: plus 6.1% increase in agricultural production and salary growth in the sector up to UAH 10.5 thousand. The volume of capital investments in the agro sector of the region, primarily the processing, amounted to UAH 2.5 billion.
Addressing the participants of the Forum, the Head of Government stressed that support for the agro-industrial sector is one of the key priorities for the Government of Ukraine. So, in 2017-2018, the amount of financial assistance provided to farmers amounted to UAH 9.2 billion, and this year will make up almost UAH 6 billion. The money will be directed to the most demanded areas: livestock breeding, partial compensation for the purchase of machinery manufactured in Ukraine. Among the essential focuses in work is the support of the farmer movement, which over time should shape the basis of Ukraine's agrarian sector. Already, there are 33.1 thousand active farms in the country, representing 67.6% of the total number of economic legal entities employed in agriculture.
Government, according to Volodymyr Groysman, managed to eradicate the practice of neglecting interests of small business in the countryside and to direct financial, technical, technological and consulting resources to this segment of producers. This year the target support of farmers will be to the tune of UAH 800 million, another UAH 200 million will be directed to credit programs.
"The agro-industrial complex is a driving force of our economy and a guarantee of the food security both of Ukraine and the world. Our products are presented in 190 countries of the world, we are entering TOP-7 food exporters, but we possess bigger potential. Our task is to increase in-depth processing of products. And in the coming years, we will attract investment in the development of agribusiness, thus in the creation of new products that will be presented in domestic and foreign markets under «made in Ukraine» trademark", the Prime Minister stressed.
The Head of Government said that last year the volume of capital investments in the agricultural complex had amounted to UAH 90 billion. And this support will be strengthened, both in financial terms and in terms of assistance in entering foreign markets due to free trade agreements.
"We produce competitive products. I understand that many world products can be found on store shelves but we should buy Ukrainian products in order to strengthen the economy", Volodymyr Groysman underscored.
