The Ministry of Agrarian Policy reviewed the Road Map for development of berry production

Recently, much attention has been paid to the berry growing, which is currently developing dynamically. An impulse for its development was the state support program for compensation of the cost of planting material. So, last year, 167 business entities benefited from the support and laid 3690 hectares of fruit and berry crops, of which 902 hectares of berry trees. In addition, 96% of berry plantations in 2018 were laid through the state support program.

Olga Trofimtseva, acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine noted in the course of discussion of the roadmap on the development of berry production in terms of strengthening the export potential of Ukrainian producers and processors of berry products that was presented by Associations and Eastern Partnership project: Trade Readiness - EU4Business Initiative, which is implemented by the International Trade Center (International Trade Center) with the financial support of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR)) within the EU4Business initiative.

“The roadmap is a strategic framework document that reflects further development of the industry in the medium and long term, both in terms of export orientation and the development of the domestic market,” said Olga Trofimtseva.

A sectoral roadmap is aimed at strengthening the export of berry products, strengthening institutions in Ukraine, and the Government’s strategic approach to supporting the development of the industry. Also, it will help small domestic producers of berries in achieving their goals for the commercial development of enterprises and improving competitiveness and exports through the implementation of sanitary, phytosanitary measures, technical standards, certification, improved infrastructure and increased knowledge of manufacturers of modern technologies.

In addition, during the meeting a separate attention was paid to the issue of increasing the consumption of berries by children at school and pre-school institutions, namely – make sure it is fixed it at the national level.

According to the results of the meeting, it was agreed that working groups will be set up for each direction of the road map, which can be joined by all interested parties.
