The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine is interested in foreign investments in the construction of potato starch enterprises on the territory of Ukraine, which will contribute to the formation of a powerful industrial potato processing sphere and further development of the potato industry in general.

The installation of new capacities will allow domestic potato producers to diversify production by growing various types of potatoes, including for processing on starch, and potato starch producers - to develop new markets.

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Viktor Sheremeta noted this during a meeting with the Chinese delegation discussing investment intentions to establish potato starch production enterprises in Ukraine and its subsequent export to the markets of Southeast Asia. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and Chinese business.

"Ukraine ranks 4th in the world in terms of gross production of potatoes, producing more than 20 million tons annually. However, the production of potato starch in Ukraine, although having a steady tendency to increase, but does not fully cover demand of the domestic market, and the dynamics of exports of such products is situational. Therefore, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine is ready to support and create a "green way" for the investments of our Chinese partners in this area ", - Viktor Sheremeta said.

According to him, by 2000 year in Ukraine there were 17 specialized enterprises for the production of potato starch, currently four enterprises are operating, whose capacities are constantly expanding.

"Construction of new plants and extension of capacities of potato starch production plants will create new jobs, increase the socio-economic standard of living of the population and develop rural areas", - the Deputy Minister added.

Representatives of the Chinese side noted that Ukrainian starch in its qualitative indicators fully satisfies the Chinese market, and expressed their readiness to invest in the industrial production of starch in Ukraine.
