Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food held an expanded meeting with representatives of food industry to determine strategic directions of industry development

Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olena Kovaliova chaired an expanded meeting with representatives of associations of food and processing industry enterprises on strategic directions of development for 2020-2022. The event was also attended by representatives of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine.

"As of today, the Ukrainian food industry is a powerful sector in the agroindustrial complex, but along with this, we see enormous potential for its further development. Joining efforts, in particular through the introduction of new standards and quality management systems at the enterprises of the industry, switching from the export of raw materials to the export of finished products, we provide a new level of competitiveness of Ukrainian goods, promote the expansion of markets and enhance the credibility and image of Ukraine as whole", emphasized Olena Kovaliova.

In 2018, the volume of sales of food products, beverages and tobacco products reached UAH 504 billion, or 20.1% in the total volume of industrial products sold in Ukraine. By this indicator, the industry ranked first among the industries.

In addition, the industry provides stable foreign currency earnings for the country. In 2018, a record volume of export of agricultural products was registered - USD 18.6 billion, of which half falls within products of the processing industry.

"One of the directions of current agrarian policy is the harmonization of national legislation, the improvement of certification and standardization systems, and the implementation of the safety system for food production. A number of basic laws have already been developed and adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, work on the elaboration of bylaws is ongoing", said the Deputy Minister.

She reminded that till September 20, 2019, all food producers should introduce a system of risk analysis, hazardous factors and control of critical points in their enterprises.

Particular attention was paid to the promotion of export of agricultural products to foreign markets. The Strategy for Exporting Agricultural, Food and Processing Industry Products of Ukraine till 2026, which is being prepared for submission to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, has already been finalized. The main vectors of the Export Strategy are the improvement of the regulatory framework, government export promotion measures, organizational and financial support, and so on.
