According to the results of 2018, 132.9 thousand tons of berries were produced in Ukraine by all categories of farms, of which only 15.3 thousand tons were produced by the agricultural enterprises. The largest share of harvested berries is strawberry - 62.3 thousand tons, raspberries - 35.6 thousand tons and currants - 29.6 thousand tons. This was noted by Olga Trofimtseva, acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine during the International Forum "S-Fruit Transformation".
She stressed that the export of Ukrainian fresh and frozen berries has also increased significantly.
"Over the past four years, exports have increased by almost five times, in particular - from 4.5 thousand tons to 23.5 thousand tons. Ukrainian fresh berries are exported to Belarus, Poland, Moldova, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, and the largest consumers of frozen berries became the EU countries, "said Olga Trofimtseva.
She also drew attention to the development of organic berries.
"According to the results of 2018, the gross yield of Ukrainian organic berries totaled more than 3.3 thousand tons. The total land area under the production of organic berries in Ukraine estimated to 737.82 hectares. Today we have over 90 producers of organic berries, about 20 exporters of organic wild berries and 8 exporters of cultivated berries - raspberries and strawberries, "- noted the acting Minister
During the forum, Olga Trofimtseva emphasized that the state support to the sector was quite effective last year. For example, in 2018, 167 economic entities benefited from compensation of the costs of planting material who laid 3,690 hectares of fruit and berry crops, of which 902 hectares of berries. That is, 96% of berry plantations were laid due to the state support. For the year 2019, this budget program provides for UAH 400 million as a compensation of the costs for the enterprises that are involved in horticulture.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine actively responds to the industry's requests in the development of the state support programs. In particular, the experts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine are working on the issues associated with compensation of costs for the purchased foreign equipment to the agricultural servicing cooperatives engaged in fruit and berry production. In the near future, amendments will be made to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated February 7, 2018, No. 106, which approves the Procedure for using funds provided for in the state budget to provide financial support for the development of farms.
