Creating a new consumers’ information culture: The Parliament of Ukraine has adopted a new procedure for labeling of food products
On December 6, 2018, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law “On Consumer Information about Food Products” (registration number of the draft law is 8450). The law was developed by joint efforts of specialists from the State service of Ukraine on food safety and consumer protection and the experts of the EU Project “Improving the Food Safety Control System in Ukraine”.
It aims to ensure an adequate level of protection of the consumers' health and interests, their awareness, specifying the means of ensuring the right of consumers to information about food and the procedures for providing the information about food products.
It is worth reminding that the Law was designed to bring the Ukrainian legislation in compliance with the provisions of EU Regulation No. 1169/2011 as of October 25, 2011 on providing consumers with information about food products.
